From a Shared Workshop to a Museum Collection — ORUHA, the Sculptural Chair Honored with 10 International Design Awards, Begins Its Limited Release
The prototype, awarded the A’ Design Award Gold and London International Creative Competition (LICC) Best in Category, marks the brand’s first public release while preparing for a limited production model

ORUHA, a sculptural wooden chair awarded 10 international design honors—including LICC Best in Category and A’ Design Award Gold—and selected for the Permanent Collection of the Museum of Outstanding Design (MOOD), is launching its global debut ahead of a first limited release. Originally crafted under the constraints of a rented workshop, the project is moving toward establishing a dedicated studio in Shinjuku, Tokyo, to support a structured atelier production system.
News
Despite receiving international critical acclaim and museum acquisition, ORUHA remained unavailable to the public due to production, storage, and shipping limitations within a shared rented workshop.
To address these challenges and maintain extreme hand-crafted quality, Yedit has initiated a project to establish a dedicated studio. As the first step toward building a structured studio output, Yedit has launched an official waiting list and preview channels for an international audience. This marks the transition of ORUHA from a celebrated prototype into a limited-production piece.

Design Concept
ORUHA was conceived to create a personal sense of place within shared environments. The design balances a bold sculptural form with a private, enclosing spatial experience for the user.
Making Process
The production approach adapts structural principles inspired by film editing. In editing, fragmented scenes are arranged to construct emotional flow and rhythm. In ORUHA, this philosophy is translated into wood through proportion, visual lines, and the emotional progression experienced by the user. The final form is carved using traditional Japanese hand tools, including the kanna plane.
Technical sheet
- Sculptural silhouette that functions as both furniture and spatial object
- Designed to create a quiet sense of privacy within public environments
- Organic surfaces that respond naturally to changing light
